Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY), as one of the private universities in Indonesia having a tagline “Leading and Enlightening”, has cooperation with both domestic and abroad educational institutions. It is an evidence of commitment of UMY to be Go International University. The most recent cooperation carried out by UMY is with Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM).
The signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between UMY and USIM was undertaken by the Rector of UMY, Prof. Dr. Bambang Cipto, M.A. and the Rector of USIM, Y.Bhg., Prof. Dato’. Dr. Musa Ahmad. Taking place in Meeting Room of Rector UMY on Tuesday (9/12), both universities signed cooperation in academic aspect as research, education and training conducted by UMY and USIM engaging students, lectures, or staffs from those two universities, student exchange, and staff exchange.
Y.Bhg, Prof. Dato’. Dr. Musa Ahmad stated that, before USIM had officially cooperated by signing of MoU, in fact, his institution had already held several student exchanges to UMY, and vice versa. “UMY’s students have visited our university just now. Thus, before signing the MoU, visits among students of UMY and USIM have embarked beforehand,” he told. It was the beginning for USIM to foster the cooperation with UMY.
Dato’. Dr. Musa expected that the signed MoU would not only prevail in a year but could also be extended and enhanced more binding cooperation between USIM and UMY. “We hope that this cooperation could be extended. For the Rector, I personally wish that this cooperation would cultivate the relationship between UMY and USIM,” he conveyed.
The Rector of UMY, Prof. Dr. Bambang Cipto, M.A., welcomed the kind intention of USIM to cooperate with UMY since it would support Tree Principles of Higher Education (Three Dharma Perguruan Tinggi) and the pursuit of UMY to Go International. Prof. Bambang also expected that the cooperation could fare well and be elevated to other fields.
