UMY’s Volleyball Teams Win GAMA Cup 2015


Volleyball teams of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) won in Volley Ball Competition (Gadjah Mada Cup) 2015. In the final on Sunday (13/10) at Student Arena of UGM, UMY’s male volleyball team became the winner after beating a volleyball team of University of Brawijaya (UB) 3-2, while UMY’s female volleyball team achieve the runner up after defeated by UGM’s volleyball team 3-0. It was conveyed by Gerry Dwi Oktarani, Chief of volleyball club of UMY in an interview at office of Public Relation and Protocol Affairs on Tuesday (13/10).

One of the team members Fendy Rifyanton stated, “We lost in preliminary round when competing with UB’s male volleyball team, but it did not drag us down to go to final and be the winner.”

Gerry Dwi informed that his team carried out a lot of preparations like sparring and joint exercises with volleyball teams of other universities in Yogyakarta. “We prepared the competition for three weeks. We had regular exercise, physical exercise, and mental exercise. Solidarity was the foremost priority that we undertook during the preparation,” he asserted.

Additionally, UMY’s male and female volleyball team had became the winner of national volleyball competition, Rector Cup of Universitas Muhammadiyah Purwokerto (UMP), in April 2015. They also gained the second runner up of volleyball competition organized in UNPAD (University of Padjajaran) Bandung. “The achievements do not drive us self-satisfied. We will always attempt to be the winner of other championships. The coming competition we will join is UNY Cup in November,” he ended.
