UMY Conducts a Workshop to Enhance Lecturers’ Quality

Dr. Ir. Syaiful Anwar, an official of Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education of the Republic of Indonesia, is talking about Credit Score Assessment in a workshop conducted by UMY.

To enhance quality of lecturers, Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) conducted a workshop on “Enhancement of Lecturers’ Career and Credit Score Assessment” for university teachers pursuing their doctoral degree, lecturers, and senior lecturers. Vice Rector for Human Resources Dr. Nano Prawoto, S.E., M.Si. stated that data showed that quality of UMY lecturers is low.

“The data are mentioned on an accreditation document that the lecturers’ quality got a score of 2.2 of 4. Some of the stages to foster the quality is inviting experts to motivate the lecturers and monitor them,” told Dr. Nano on Saturday (30/12) at A.R. Fachruddin B of UMY.

Dr. Nano informed that he has created a team to increase the lecturers’ career. “Creating the team aims to encourage the lecturers to achieve academic ranks and to pursue their degrees,” he stated.

Dr. Nano inserted that the number of publications will affect the academic ranks. “However, lecturers cannot entirely focus on the publication since they possess lots to do such as teaching and household duties. Therefore, we have to provide training, monitoring, and evaluation in order that their career can elevate,” he maintained.

As a follow-up to the workshop, Dr. Nano said that UMY will organize a scientific camp so that the lecturers can concentrate on their academic writing. “It will be held for two days and we will invite writing experts to supervise the lecturers during writing. I expect that lecturers will already have a topic and the materials so that the output will be a scientific writing,” he maintained.

Dr. Nano stated that the stages are in line with Strategic Performance Index (IKS) of Human Resources arranged till 2020. “The index mentions that UMY has 45 percent of senior lecturers, 45 percent of doctors, and 10 percent of professors,” he ended.
