UTM Visits UMY

Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) welcomed a field trip of University Technology Malaysia (UTM). It will be the beginning of UMY and UTM to have cooperation in internationalization field. It aimed at following up MoU of both universities. “UMY conducted cooperation with overseas universities in social and medical fields, yet now UMY cooperates with UTM to evolve Engineering Faculty of UMY,” stated Slamet Riyadi, S.T., M.T., Ph.D. in welcoming four delegates of UTM on Monday (14/9) at Rector Meeting Hall of UMY.

He mentioned that four delegates of UTM were Prof. Datuk Ir. Dr. Wahidin Bin Omar as Vice Chancellor of UTM, Prof. Dr. Roslan Amirudin as Dean of Faculty of Build Environment, Prof. Dr. Khairul Anuar Kasim as Dean of Faculty of Civil Enginering, Prof. Dr. Abdul Samad Ismail as Dean of Faculty of Computing, and Hj. Zainul Rashid Abu as Manager of UTM International. “They come to recognize UMY well, particularly Engineering Faculty of UMY,” he added.

He also told that Engineering Faculty of UMY encompasses 4 departments, namely Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Informatics Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering while the focus of each department will be integrated in the courses. Engineering Faculty concerns with computer science networking, data base, programming, and electrics while Engineering Faculty of UTM is established by its own self so that it can be more specific,” he asserted.

Moreover, UMY has 7 internationalization programs, yet UTM is more interested in international community service and research cooperation. “International community service engages in international students to foster and cope with issues in a remote area. It is fascinating if UTM’s students can be involved in the community service for a month,” affirmed Toni K. Haryadi M.T.

Prof. Dr. Roslan Amirudin inserted that UTM also possesses a similar program to the community service, namely Short Semester that students will gain additional courses in July – August. “The distinction is in the area of program that UTM conducts it at class while UMY carries it out in a field to overcome issues, and it is exciting,” he expressed.

Furthermore, Prof. Datuk Ir. Dr. Wahidin Bin Omar uttered that his party welcomed UMY to conduct research cooperation. This cooperation may provide an occasion for both universities to foster research. The licensing process can be expedited since research cooperation does not require MoU, but it needs coaching of UTM to carry out the research.

The cooperation can be a great opportunity for both universities to foster. Indeed, Engineering Faculty of UMY is a newer department than the other faculties at UMY. It was also expected that both universities can interweave good relationship and can be more advance in any field.
