UMY To Hold its First Undergraduate Conference

For the first time, Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta will hold a thesis or scientific work conference of undergraduate students called UMY Undergraduate Conference (Grace) on August 18, 2020 with the theme ‘Armoring the Youth to the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals). The opening of the conference series was marked by revealing the logo and UMY Grace website on Friday (6/3) in the AR Lobby. Fachruddin A Ground Floor Central Campus of UMY.

The hosting of this Undergraduate Conference aims to provide a forum for students to be able to express their ideas, especially theses or scientific papers that have the opportunity to be published. Rector of UMY Dr. Ir. Gunawan Budiyanto M.P. considered that this breakthrough as a move to the right direction, considering that the scientific works of undergraduate students are very rarely given a place to be published.

“This is the first time a college has conducted an Undergraduate Conference. This conference is a place to accommodate all academic products from final year students (thesis) and scientific paper reports. This will be a very extraordinary learning experience for students to develop their mindset, so they can get productive results, one of which through a quality thesis,” said Gunawan in front of an audience of students and lecturers of UMY.

UMY plans to give its full support for the implementation of this event. However, this is a long time plan for UMY, so Gunawan advised the committee to work hard for the success of UMY Grace. “We will fully support UMY Grace, so please show that we are responsible and academic people. I really appreciate the hard work of the students for the success of this event,” he added.

Meanwhile, the chief executive of the committee and UMY Student President Muhammad Iqbal Khatami, said that sometimes students are not brave enough be open with the creative ideas they have, thus closing the potential for an interesting idea that can benefit everyone. “I think young people are not short of ideas, but sometimes the ideas just stop in their heads, and are not presented in an appropriate forum. With the presence of UMY Grace, I hope that it can provide a forum to foster student enthusiasm to express their ideas in the form of journals, theses, or other scientific works, “said Iqbal

UMY Grace set a target to involve 1500 participants, 1,000 from UMY students and 500 participants from other campuses. (hbb)
