Responding the situation of this nation and the rivalry of Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) and National Police (Polri) in various issues recently, academics of Muhammadiyah-affiliated universities (PTM) on Monday (26/1/2015) in Building A.R. Fachruddin of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) conducted a rally entitled “#Save KPK, Save the Nation”.

On the rally, they expressed that corruption is a crime against humanity that should endlessly be eradicated in Indonesia as Muhammadiyah’s vision.

As moral force for KPK, academics of PTM support KPK to work on eradicating corruption as Muhammadiyah’s vision. “We are concerned with the rivalry of law enforcement agencies that it would prosper corruptors,” told Prof. Dr. Bambang Cipto, M.A., Rector of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta UMY, accompanied by Prof. Dr. H. Ahmad Syafii Mrid, Dra. Siti Noordjanah Djohantini, M.M., M.Si., (the chairwoman of PP Aisyiyah), Prof. Dr. Hj. Siti Chamamah Soeratno (the former chairwoman of PP Aisyiyah), Drs. H. Afnan Hadikusumo (DPD RI), Ir. H. M. Dasron Hamid, M.Sc., Prof. Abdul Munir Mulkhan, Dr. Chairil Anwar (Dikti council of PP Muhammadiyah), and Prof. Bambang Setiadi (Rector of Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta).

During the rally, academics of PTM urged KPK and Polri to maintain themselves and not to put each other institution’s dignity down. KPK and Polri are required to carry out their own duty.

“We love them and expect that the performance of Corruption Eradication Commission and National Police to uphold the law as statutory provisions. We wish that they could liberate themselves from any pressure and political interests,” conveyed Prof. Dr. H. Ahmad Syafii Maarif. He also added that the effort of KPK weakened.

“If this conflict is condoned, this nation might be wrecked. Additionally, there would be many problems to resolve in this nation,” uttered Syafii.

Furthermore, academics of PTM encouraged KPK and opposed any effort of criminalization of KPK. They insisted President as head of state with all his authority to be able to be decisive and responsible for solving political uproar between KPK and Polri. “Hence, it could coin quiet situation,” added Syafii Maarif.
