UMY Officially Announces the e-Learning System for PKBM Muhammadiyah Taiwan

Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) provides an e-learning system to support a learning process of Indonesian migrant workers (TKI) in Taiwan. The e-learning system will be used by Community Learning Center (PKBM) Muhammadiyah Taiwan who have not pursued the primary and secondary education in Indonesia.

The e-learning system aid was officially announced by Rector of UMY Dr. Ir. Gunawan Budiyanto, M.P. through a live teleconference from Yogyakarta on Sunday (22/4). In his remark, Gunawan stated that UMY as a part of Muhammadiyah really bolsters the PKBM Muhammadiyah Taiwan. “UMY will support all learning activities for your development in Taiwan,” he declared.

Gunawan added, “Indeed, when you back to Indonesia, I wish that the knowledge would be valuable for your life.”

Meanwhile, headmaster of PKBM Muhammadiyah Taiwan Indra Gunawan told that the e-learning encompasses material storage from tutors and provides online exams and online surveys. The learning consists of 85 percent of online meetings and 15 percent of offline meetings. “We hope that the e-learning assists students to learn well,” expected Indra.

Besides, on the orientation day of the PKBM students on Sunday chief of PCIM Taiwan Ahmad Syauqi revealed that the PKBM is a contribution PCIM Taiwan to give formal education for the TKO in Taiwan, and is the first PKBM Muhammadiyah overseas established since 6 December 2017.

“Muhammadiyah Taiwan always gets involved in empowering the TKI in Taiwan so that they can pursue their higher education when they back to Indonesia,” said Syauqi.

He also informed that the PKBM Muhammadiyah Taiwan has two batches consisting 50 people taking Kejar Paket A or the equivalent to elementary school, Kejar Paket B or the equivalent to junior high school, and Kejar Paket C or the equivalent to senior high school. They are taught by Indonesian students taking their master’s or doctoral degree in Taiwan.
