SAC of UMY Encourages Students to Find Their Passion

Students are demanded to have achievements and to be able to become examples for others. The demand occasionally turns into pressure for the students, particularly when they begin enrolling at university. A lot of studies, which students can take, sometimes lead to the confusion to finding out their passion.

Self-Access Center (SAC) of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) conducted SAC Talks. The SAC Talks raised a theme of ‘The Passion Starts Here’. It was held on Thursday (8/11). SAC of UMY invited six speakers that four of them were academicians of UMY having achievement in their own field like entrepreneurship, announcer, stock investment, founder of Kampung Cyber, awardee of LPDP, and urban farming. Director of SAC Lanoke Intan Paradita stated that the SAC Talks aimed at convincing students about their passion so that they can persevere in it, and can be valuable for their community.

The first speaker of the SAC Talks was Hadyan Azka who is an Accounting student of UMY and has become a young entrepreneur even though he has not accomplished his undergraduate program. His products are trash recycling trash. He told that the idea began from the willingness to utilizing environment wisely. “Indonesia has produce 5.4 billion tons of plastic rubbish each year and the rubbish are wasted to sea. We are supposed to diminish the number and utilize the rubbish. I believe that, if we save the nature, the nature will save us from bad things,” Hadyan declared.

Hadyan Azka obtained business capital from Student Entrepreneurship and Business Incubator (SEBI) of UMY counted 36 billion rupiahs after submitting proposal with his team. Hadyan said that his business was started from zero and needed endeavor. He motivated the talk participants not to get down for all their efforts. Hadyan told that the profits of his business can be used to pay his tuition fee.

Besides, Antonius Sasongko Wahyu Kusumo, a founder of Kampung Cyber in RT 36 Tamansari, Patehan, Yogyakarta was the other speaker. He narrated that he faced barriers when constructing the Kampung Cyber. One of them was dealing with financial factor. Nevertheless, after performing endeavor, Kampung Cyber has been well-known by public and in international. “The foremost key of each business is perseverance. Maintain our efforts. It may be difficult, but just believe that, when we get stuck, there will always be a way,” he expressed.

The other speaker was Masyithoh Annisa Ramadhani, an alumnus of International Relations of UMY achieving LPDP scholarship to pursue her master’s degree at University of Birmingham. She told how she struggled to gain the scholarship, and how she encountered confusion to find her passion. “Do not get confused. We may sometimes need to stop for a while to ensure that the path that we take is right,” she argued.

Additionally, the SAC Talks was conducted at Mini Theater, Floor 4 of Library Center Building, UMY. A lot of students looked enthusiastic about the talks. Lanoke Intan Paradita expected that the students may become motivated by the speakers’ achievement, and they may be able to find their passion and obtain achievements. Hence, students of UMY can contribute to the development of Indonesia.
