KPI of UMY Conducts an ‘Electronic Dakwah’ Exhibition

Department of Islamic Broadcasting (KPI) of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) conducted an annual poster exhibition for the students of batch 2014 on 4 January 2016 at lobby of Faculty of Islamic Studies of UMY. The exhibition was the peak of Electronic Dakwah (Islamic Preaching) Course.

When interviewed, secretary of the department, Imam Suprabowo, S.Kom.I., M.Pd.I. informed that the exhibition under the theme of ‘Creative Economy for the Development of the KPI’ was in line with visions and missions of the department. Imam believe that Islamic teaching is conducted through not only preaching bur also various means such as utilizing social media, design, pictures, and other media using technology.

“This exhibition may enable the students to master any studies such as graphic design or Corel Draw which becomes one of the outputs of the department. The exhibition also aims at appreciating students for their effort to learn graphic design. I am proud of their design. Well, at least they know the techniques of Electronic Dakwah,” stated Imam.

Imam also told that the exhibition theme was also in line with the mission of Muhammadiyah. He expected that students of KPI are able to disseminate Islam wisely and creatively such as employing social media, and implement what they have learned in their community. The exhibition may benefit them to be able to compete with other graduates.

“An alumnus of KPI, Aka Sanjaya graduating 5 years ago, joined this exhibition and now he becomes a successful photography lecturer in Nusa Tenggara Barat (NTB). Indeed, he is also recruited by Kompas to be the photographer. One of his photos can be seen on UMY’s brochure. This department considers that his success is one of the students’ achievements. Thus, this exhibition is expected encourage students to explore their capability. Besides, the department parties will also reward the best work,” he mentioned.
