Young Generations Should Build and Expand Networking

Student Executive Board (BEM) of Faculty of Social and Political Sciences of Universtas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) conducted a workshop on Mabar (Main Bareng – Playing Together) dengan Alumni (with Alumni) at Building of K.H. Ibrahim, floor 5, UMY. The workshop aimed to trigger students to evolve their skills and to expand their experiences.

Goals of the students are to be a bachelor and to get a job as their interest and skills. To achieve the targets, knowledge which they gain at class is not sufficient. They should have other skills to develop, compete, and survive after they graduate.

Indeed, this era demands students to be more creative and innovative. Thus, UMY attempts to create excellent and Islamic graduates who can benefit other people.

“Students have to possess skills and great GPA is a plus. You have to be able to spend your time joining organizations, for example. You may not become a student who only comes to class and knows nothing when you graduate,” maintained an alumnus as well as a lecturer of Department of Communication Science of UMY Muhammad Muttaqien, S.Ikom., M.Sn.

Muhammad Muttaqien, well-known as Angkie, mentioned the significance of broadening networking outside campus since it will be valuable for future. Everyone have no idea what will occur in the future. In fact, humans are social beings so that we will need other people’s help. “My advice is that making friends with students from other universities. You have to join community or just have a cup of coffee with other people. In my point of view, networking is essential because I can perceive the impacts now. I teach at not only UMY but also Universitas Islam Indonesia (UII) and Universitas Mercubuana due to networking,” he told.

Furthermore, a lecturer of the faculty as well as the other speaker of the workshop Dr. Zuly Qodir contended that great knowledge gear up students to confront challenges. He advised the students to always recite Al-Qur’an. “It is clearly stated that Al-Qur’an obliges us to read. As young generations, you may not be lazy to read. If possible, you have to try to write what you get from your reading. Afterwards, make works,” he encouraged.
