UMY Helps Production of Digital Content Based on Character Education in the Middle of the Pandemic

Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) facilitates elementary school teachers to produce multiculturalism-based character education learning videos. Facilitation is done through a video production workshop with the Kine Master app. The workshop was held on Saturday (27/6) at Muhammadiyah Karangturi Elementary School, Bantul. This activity is part of a series of community services conducted by UMY Communication Studies lecturer, Dr. Filosa Gita Sukmono and Dr. Dawn Junaedi.

“This training is based on the need to prepare learning content in the middle of a pandemic, especially character values that might not be obtained when studying at home,” Filosa explained. The UMY Communication Studies lecturer added that during the pandemic, the campus was called to carry out the service part of the tridarma of tertiary institutions through the UMY Mengabdi movement.

The workshop was held while adhering to the Covid-19 prevention protocol. The workshop that presented Hendrawan Setiawan from Gawai Piawai contained material about video production using the Kine Master app. The participants were invited to do prepare their own material, starting from the preparation of production designs, taking pictures, and editing. The trainer, who has been certified by Kine Master, invited participants to practice on the spot until they can produce learning videos. Twelve participants who were divided into four groups succeeded in producing four learning videos.

At the end of the workshop, a set of video production equipment was provided for Muhammadiyah Karangturi Elementary School along with Kine Master premium access for the participants. This assistance is expected to help the schools produce more learning video content, especially related to character education based on multiculturalism.
