UMY Campaigns for Carbon Emission Reduction

Coinciding with the 48th Muhammadiyah and Aisyiyah Congress, Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) held a Carbon Footprint Reduction Campaign (CFRC) as one of UMY’s participation in reducing carbon emissions. Slamet Riyadi, Ph.D. the Chairperson of the Committee explained that in addition to enlivening the Muhammadiyah and Aisyiyah Congress, the CFRC also campaigned biking activities to all members of the community as a solution to a healthier living and participation in reducing carbon emissions to create a greener environment.

“Cycling activities can be carried out either as sports, entertainment, or working / school transportation modes (bike to work or bike to school). In addition, our other mission is to continue the relay of the 48th Muhammadiyah and Aisyiyah Congress flag from the Universitas Muhammadiyah Purwokerto to Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta, the next host of the Congress, “explained Slamet.

Slamet who is also an activist of UMYGO – the bicycle community at UMY, revealed that this CFRC activity allows UMY lecturers and education personnel to participate in the UMY Sehat program and UMY Green Campus Initiatives, and to enliven the 39th Anniversary of UMY. The realization of these programs is inseparable from the direction of the Vice Rector for Human Resources, Dr. Nano Prawoto, S.E., M.Sc., who encouraged the UMY academic community and the community to always live a healthy life through cycling activities.

On another occasion, the Vice Rector for Student Affairs, Alumni and AIK, Prof. Hilman Latief, PhD, also revealed that UMY encouraged increasing cycling activities in the campus environment to promote UMY as a Green Campus.

After Fajr prayer and a  light breakfast, CFRC participants will depart from the UMY Central Campus on Sunday (8/3) at 05.00 WIB. The group will stop at several heritage sites, namely Prambanan Temple, Al Aqsa Klaten Mosque and Surakarta Palace, and finish at the UMS campus. The bicycle group has a total of 40 cyclists and 20 support teams including the health, public relations, and security team led by drg. Edwyn Saleh, SpBM as the road captain.
