Berdasarkan hasil temuan yang dirilis Dirjen Badan Peradilan Agama Mahkamah Agung RI pada tahun 2010 tercatat 285.184 kasus perceraian, angka itu menunjukkan angka perceraian tertinggi sejak lima tahun terakhir. Pada tahun 2015 kasus perceraian meningkat menjadi 344.237. Hal ini menjadi bahan disertasi dari Moh. Toriqul Chaer dalam sidang promosi doktor Psikologi Pendidikan Islam Universitas Muhammadiyah
