Buya Hamka and Hasbi As-Sidqi are famed as Muslim scholars studying Al-Qur’an-based sciences. Their existence is necessary nowadays particularly for Muhammadiyah-affiliated universities and other Islamic organizations.

In the opening of Al-Qur’an Festival at Sportorium of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) on Wednesday (10/8), Ministry of Religious Affairs, Lukman Hakim Saifuddin, declared that Muslims should bear in mind ‘ar-ruju’ ilal Qur’an was-sunnah’ (back to Al-Qur’an and Sunnah).

“Al-Qur’an exists as guidance for scientists to gain notions and to create theories. History mentioned that the scientists foster new knowledge by analyzing Al-Qur’an. Al-Qur’an is the basis of sciences,” Lukman stated.

Lukman told that Al-Qur’an inspires and encourages people who think and persistently develop sciences. “Al-Qur’an does not provide details of scientific formulas in order that people attempt to find them out,” Lukman conveyed.

Besides, Al-Qur’an comprises of arts. The verses possess beautiful language structures. Wonderful Al-Qur’an recitation can be a magnet to expand arts in the future.

Lukman expected the Al-Qur’an Festival can grow Muslims’ love toward Al-Qur’an. “Islam rages on in Middle East so that Indonesia should become a role model for Muslims in the world,” Lukman argued.

In the end of his remark, he recommended that there are other competitions besides tilawatil Qur’an, syahril Qur’an, and fahmil Qur’an. “For instance, there is Al-Qur’an story telling so that the participants can be creative,” Lukman wished.
