GBN of UMY Commemorates the 72nd Anniversary of Indonesia’s Independence Day in a Border Area

 

Students of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) associated in a team of Generasi Bakti Negeri (GBN) and performing a community service (KKN) successfully commemorated the 72nd Anniversary of Indonesia’s Independence Day at Sekolah Tapal Batas Indonesia-Malaysia, Sebatik Tengah, Nunukan, Kalimantan Utara. The celebration was organized on Wednesday and Thursday (16-17/8) with Pertamina EP Asset 5 – Tarakan Field.

Chief of KKN GBN SSP #3 UMY Adzkiya Brama informed that the commemoration comprised of a ceremony and competitions for students of Sekolah Tapal Batas, their parents, and inhabitants of Sebatik. “The competitions were held on Wednesday (16/8). Besides, we conducted tirakatan (a congregational prayer) proceeded by lighting a bonfire by Principal of Sekolah Tapal Batas and a representative of Pertamina EP Asset 5 – Tarakan Field. In the tirakatan, we sang ‘Generasi Bakti Negeri’ by Salsabila Yusrina,” he told on a release sent to Public Relations Office of UMY on Friday (18/8).

Meanwhile, on Thursday (17/8), there was a ceremony that the ceremonial inspector was Vice Governor of Kalimantan Utara Udin Hianggio. “In his remark, Mr. Udin Hianggio expressed his pride of UMY students who serve in a border area and attempt to develop education. We are welcomed by the Vice Governor, and we wish that his advices make us more trustworthy,” he added.

Adzikya thanked Pertamina EP Asset 5 and SKK MIGAS for inviting his team to organize events to celebrate Indonesia’s Independence Day. They also gave students’ parents and inhabitants prizes.

Manager of Legal and Relations of Pertamina EP Asset 5 – Tarakan Field Yosi Ardilah and Principal of Sekolah Tapal Batas Mrs. Hj. Suraidah also thanked the GBN team for arranging the events.

In addition, a student of Department of Islamic Studies who is also a member of the GBN team Annisa Siwi Prastiwi stated that the people of Sebatik pin their hopes on the students. “They expected that GBN of UMY can always contribute to community. Indeed, GBN of UMY has ‘homework’ to enhance their performance to more beneficial for the society,” she declared.
