Freshmen of UMY Are Welcomed by 5 Foregin Languages

5,154 freshmen joined M a ‘Masa Ta’aruf’ (MATAF) – Orientation Days at Sportorium of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) on Monday (31/8). The opening of the event used 5 foreign languages which will be the foremost languages at UMY, namely Arabic, Japanese, Mandarin, English, and German. “In 2014, MATAF employed four languages, but this year German is added,” stated Arum Anggraeni as a moderator using the German language.

The various foreign languages displayed that UMY has moved forward to be a ‘Muda Mendunia’ university. Moreover, UMY is now facilitating a program of seven foreign languages which are French, Korean, and those five mentioned languages.

UMY also obtained national and international achievements. Rector of UMY Prof. Dr. Bambang Cipto, M.A. mentioned students’ achievements. “Students of UMY succeeded in international competitions. For instance, Law students represented Indonesia in a debate contest in Nebraska, and Engineering students won movement aid design competition in ASEAN level,” he uttered.

In the MATAF, the freshmen were also entertained by several Student Activity Units (UKM) like Sunshine Voice, traditional Dance of West Sumatera preformed by KMKK UMY (Minangkabau Student Family), traditional Dance of North Sumatera, and Tapak Suci.

Attending the MATAF were also Head of Daily Supervisor Board (BPH) Prof. Dr. Syamsul Anwar, Rector of UMY Prof. Dr. Bambang Cipto, M.A., vice chancellors, and secretary of UMY. UMY also invited Deputy Commissioner of Capital Market II Financial Services Authority, Head of OJK Yogyakarta Fauzi Nugroho, Development Director of PT Indonesia Stock Exchange Nicky Hogan, Head of PT Indonesia Stock Exchange Yogyakarta Irfan Noor Riza, Head of Human Resource Division PT Kustodian Sentral Efek Indonesia (KSEI) Nina Rizalina, Director of Business Development of PT Manulife Asset Management Indonesia Putut Andanawarih, Director of Investment Management of OJK Sujanto, and a representative of MURI Semarang Sri Widayati.

Additionally, there was also awarding for UMY having the greatest number of investors. UMY also invited Giring ‘Nidji’ as a speaker of Stock Exchange.
