Employees of the Higher Education Service Institution (LLDIKTI) Region V visited Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta to take part in the two-day Journalism Training (August 4-5) in the 5th Floor Meeting Room of the AR  Fachruddin A Building, UMY Central Campus. Lecturers of Communication Science and employees of the UMY Office of Public Relations and Protocol became speakers to share knowledge about the importance of journalism.

On the first day, the speakers provided scientific input on journalistic writing, designing content using gadgets, video content using gadgets, and direct assistance for news content creation with attractive packaging the next day. Journalism has become a necessity that cannot be ignored in the era of information technology, even since long ago, as said by the UMY Rector, Dr. Ir. Gunawan Budiyanto, M.P. in his opening statements at the event.

“Journalism is as natural as breathing for us, because everything is fast paced in this disruptive era. Whoever missed the news would not understand the circumstances around the. In the UMY Mengabdi program, with the current pandemic conditions, some students cannot go home and here we are here to provide services, which are then delivered through attractive journalistic packages to let them know that we are there for them,” he said.

There are many types journalistic works that can be submitted, all of which aim to make people understand something through media, be it writing, infographics, or video content. Deputy Rector for Human Resources of UMY Dr. Nano Prawoto, SE., M.Si added the importance of publication through a journalism.

Moreover, for an institution or institution that is not well known by the public, it is necessary to have a means of journalism. Activities, duties, and services can be stated in the form of news, so that the public knows what the institution is actually doing.

“Publication is important for an institution or organization, because it can make people understand and know that we exist. Maybe for some people outside the educational environment, they don’t understand what LLDIKTI Region V is, so publication through written news, graphic info, or videos can be a way to introduce an organization to the public.
