UMY Librarian Won First Place in National-level Accomplished Librarian Election

A Librarian of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY), Arda Putri Winata was chosen to represent the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY) in the National Accomplished Librarian Election and placed first in the competition. This event was held by the National Library (Perpusnas) in Jakarta from 13-19 August of 2019.

When interviewed on Wednesday (21/8), Arda explained that the selection process for the national accomplished librarian election started from a regional level, where 17 participants from various backgrounds were chosen through 4 categories. 6 participants were chosen for the first, second, and third place winners, as well as the first, second, and third runner ups. “For the representatives of DIY, only the first place winner is chosen to the national-level elections, which results in participants from 29 provinces who all went through the same selection process with a cognitive, interview, portfolio, and presentation test. My interview test had a question and answer session about the paper that I sent titled Academic Cyber Crime, and then I had to create a presentation with the topic of “accomplished librarians to support national development,” Arda stated.

After the selection test that took place during 13-15 August 2019 Arda had to participate in a public senate meeting on 16 August 2019, a ceremony in Perpusnas on August 17, and an announcement of the winners on August 18, before closing the event on August 19 by participating in a trip of perpusnas. “I did not think I would represent DIY and UMY to become the first place champion, because I thought other participants had great works and portfolio,” Arda added.

The same sentiments were given by the head of UMY’s Library, Lasa HS, M.Si. The accomplished librarian election had several selection tests from the regional level to the national level, ranging from a cognitive test that challenges the librarian’s knowledge, local wisdom, profession, and organization. This is then followed by an interview test, document check, and presentation. “Alhamdulillah, in 2019 Arda, the representative of UMY won first place in nationals after passing through a strict selection process in regional and national level,” said Lasa.

Lasa also stated that there was a projection to promote UMY librarians through competition all the way to nationals by pushing them to read, write scientific papers, and be active in their organization. “With this achievement, hopefully future UMY librarians can become panelists, editors, writers, or judges for future librarian competitions so that they can be recognized. In addition, this achievement can promote UMY and Aisyiyah College Libraries and create a notion that libraries can create achievements. and for Academic personnel, lecturers, and students to keep supporting UMY’s library. With a fastabiqul khairat (compete for goodness) spirit, we are confident that the UMY library can create more achievements in the future,” Lasa closed. (sofia)
