UMY Electrical Engineering Study Program Successfully Receives “A” Accreditation

The Electrical Engineering Study Program of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (Prodi TE UMY) succeeded in attaining “A” accreditation level in 2020. This decision was issued by the National Accreditation Board for Higher Education (BAN-PT) through Decree (SK) BAN-PT No. 4562 / SK / BAN-PT / Akred / S / VIII / 2020, Tuesday (11/08). The decree is valid from 11 August 2020 to 11 August 2025. Based on information from the BAN PT Online Higher Education Accreditation System (SAPTO), the UMY Electrical Engineering study program received a score of 363, which made it received the “A” level, a significant increase from the previous year when it received a score of 306 with accreditation “B”. This accreditation also makes the study program the only Electrical Engineering study program accredited A at Muhammadiyah Universities (PTM) throughout Indonesia.

Chairman of the UMY Electrical Engineering Study Program, Dr. Ir. Ramadoni Syahputra, ST., MT. Explained that there are three components that were assessed in this accreditation, namely the study program accreditation form (book 3A), the faculty accreditation form (book 3B), and the study program self-evaluation. Of the three components, the most valuable score is from the assessment on the study program, which is worth 75 percent, while the other 25 percent is from the assessment of the faculty accreditation form and the study program self-evaluation. “As for the components of the assessment, there are 7 aspects to consider, namely vision, mission, goals, objectives, and achievement strategies; guidance and leadership; management and quality assurance systems; student and graduate affairs; human resources, curriculum, learning and academic atmosphere; financing, infrastructure, facilities and information systems, as well as research, community service, and cooperation,” explained Ramadoni, when contacted on Thursday (13/8).

One of the assessment’s criteria is student and graduate student affairs, which means that students and lecturers have an important role in implementing accreditation. “The assessment of the accreditation of this study program was carried out comprehensively, which includes the activities and achievements of the University Tri Dharma by lecturers as well as student activities and achievements during the last 3 years. Lecturers, education staff, students, and alumni all play an active role in the success of this study program accreditation. Alhamdulillah, thanks to the grace of Allah, supported by the noble desire of the Prodi academic community through togetherness and hard work, finally UMY Electrical Engineering achieved an A-level accreditation, “said Ramadoni.

There are several achievements from students, lecturers, and alumni that helped with the criteria for accreditation assessment, namely, international achievements of lecturers including the success of obtaining international collaborative research grants, publication in reputable international journals, as well as reputable international journal reviewers and editors. National achievements of lecturers include winning the 3rd National Sinta Awards 2018 for the PTS Lecturer category, 2nd place in national transportation research, winning national competitive research grants and multi-year community service from the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education. Even TE UMY lecturers for 2 consecutive years (2015-2016) received INSINAS, which is a prestigious research grant from the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education where other study programs at UMY have never received it until now. Meanwhile, the students were equally successful. International achievements include the best article at the 2015 ICMHS international conference, the 2018 International Choral Competition in Taipei, 1st Winner Rocket Pitching Festival of Singapore Polytechnic Entrepreneurship Education Fest 2018, Singapore, and the internship program at Chung Cheng University Taiwan. At the national level, the UMY students have won many achievements including 2nd place in the Atmospheric Balloon Contest (KOMBAT-KOMURINDO) for 3 years in a row (2016-2019), the KRPAI robot competition winner, medals in PKM-PIMNAS, and other achievements. This series of achievements makes the study program worthy of an A accreditation rating.

After receiving the A-level accreditation, UMY Electrical Engineering study program is committed to improving itself in order to improve the quality of the study program. This is in accordance with the vision of the UMY EE study program, which is to achieve international recognition through international accreditation. The UMY EE Study Program has a target that in 2025 when it aims to be internationally accredited, according to the vision and tagline of UMY “young and global”. “The achievement of this A Accreditation is not the end, but the beginning of our dream to take part in a wider scope to face the global challenges of competition in the world of higher education, especially in the field of electrical engineering which is very competitive and has a very rapid development. Hopefully, this accreditation will be a blessing for UMY, Muhammadiyah, and Indonesia. Hopefully, the Electrical Engineering study program can provide the widest possible benefit for the ummah. And hopefully, UMY Electrical Engineering study program can contribute and give color to Indonesia,” concluded Ramadoni. (dea)
