UMY Electrical Engineering Department Hosted Visiting Professor

The Electrical Engineering Department of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) Invited Professor Ir. Dr. Nor Ashidi Mat Isa of School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) Engineering Campus Nibong Tebal, Penang, Malaysia to participate in their Visiting Professor program. The event had various activities for students and lecturers to participate in.

Dr. Yessi Jusman, S.T., M.Sc, a lecturer of Electrical Engineering, stated that this event was hosted as a form of collaboration between UMY and Academicians, professors, and experienced researchers from foreign reputable universities (among the top 500 universities in the world) in the form of knowledge and experience sharing. Hopefully, the event can increase the lecturers’ research quality and quantity to improve the teaching of learning process, especially in EE UMY.

“On this Visiting Professor event, there were several academic activities in our agenda that were participated by the lecturers and students of Electrical Engineering or the UMY Engineering Faculty,” He stated when contacted on Wednesday (23/10).

The Visiting Professor event consists of three activities. In the first session, Prof. Ir. Dr. Nor Ashidi Mat Isa delivered a lecture to Students of EE UMY on how to think creatively and innovatively when determining a research topic. I the second session, the Professor delivered a lecture to lecturers of the Engineering Faculty on how to perform quality research, which is suited to be published in international journals with a high impact factor. In the third session, the professor delivered a public lecture to students of EE UMY regarding Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology. The public lecture was titled “Introduction to Intelligent System Using Artificial Neural Networks”.

“The students who attended the public lecture session were interested in the material and showed enthusiasm about the topic because the AI technology is a very trending topic in Electrical Engineering, Communication, and Information Technology research. We believe that AI will be the future of technology in the 4.0 Industrial Revolution,” He stated.

Yessi hopes that this event can improve the quality of the lecturers and students in subsequent programs. (ak)
