The Communication Studies Program of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) published another book on Friday (4/9). This time, the UMY Communication Science released a book titled “Dinamika Komunikasi di Masa Pandemi Covid-19”. This book consists of 3 parts, namely Communication Governance during the Covid-19 Pandemic: Quo Vadis ?, Audiences and Technology in the Covid-19 Pandemic Vortex, as well as Industry and Communication Practices during the Pandemic Period.
“The publication of this book began with a series of webinars conducted by the Communication Science Study Program of UMY from April to June 2020. From the webinars, an idea emerged to write the outcome of the discussion in book form,” explained Fajar Junaedi, the book’s editor. The UMY Communication Science lecturer added that the purpose of publishing this book is to publish research and studies in the realm of communication related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We want our discussions in the webinars to produce something tangible in the form of a book so that it can bring more benefits in the dissemination of knowledge, especially in the realm of Communication Sciences,” he added. In addition to the UMY Communication Science lecturers, book writers from other campuses as well as UMY Communication Science alumni also contributed to the book.
The book’s publication was supported by the UMY Communication Science Laboratory. The 351-page book begins with a foreword from the Rector of UMY. “Clumsiness in responding to the arrival of the Covid-19 pandemic, blind self-confidence and difficulties to face the reality, are the beginning of our failure to deal with the pandemic,” wrote Dr. Ir. Gunawan Budiyanto, MP. IPM, in the book’s introduction. Gunawan added in his foreword that information and disinformation have finally changed the pandemic, which was originally a medical narrative, to a social narrative that wildly penetrates and destroys human rationality.
Meanwhile, the Coordinator of the UMY Communication Science Laboratory, Budi Dwi Arifianto, stated that in addition to the technical aspects of Communication Science, the Communication Science Laboratory of UMY also explored the aspects of research, studies and publications in the field of Communication Sciences. “The publication of the book on Communication Dynamics in the COVID-19 Pandemic by the Communication Science Laboratory under the UMY Communication Study Program is a concrete form. The publication of this book is a study of communication governance in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic. With the publication of this book, UMY Communication Science Laboratory has contributed significantly to the ethos of Muhammadiyah higher education,” explained Budi.
