Another international achievement has been won by students from Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY)’s Civic Engineering program. In the 2019 Asia Bridge Competition which was hosted by Universitas Brawijaya in Malang, East Java for two days (24-26/8), Team Alpha from UMY’s Civic Engineering Program placed second in the National category and eighth in the International category.
When interviewed by a team of journalists from UMY’s Office of Human Relations and Protocol, Dr. Seplika Yadi, ST., M.T. stated that THis is the second time a team from UMY Civic Engineering has participated in the Asia Bridge Competition. “The first competition we entered was in Thailand. Alhamdulillah, we managed to place eighth in the international category and second on the national category the second time we participated,” He stated when contacted on Tuesday (17/9).
Dr. Seplika also stated that there were several categories that were judged by the panel of judges. “There were seven categories in the competition. The categories were total cost, concept design presentation, structural cost, construction cost, aesthetics, and prediction of deflection. On this occasion, UMY also won awards for the best total cost, best presentation, best structural cost, best construction cost, and best prediction of deflection categories,” The team’s supervisor stated.
“For the competition which aims to train the students’ creativity especially for steel-frame bridge building, we must prepare our team as best we can. Right now, the team from UMY Civic Engineering has already started preparations for future competitions,” Dr. Seplika closed. (CDL)
