Three Students of UMY Design Electrospnning for Nanofiber Fabrication

Three students of Faculty of Engineering of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) designed electrospinning functioning to make nanofibers health equipment such as wound bandages and air filtration. The design was proposed to Program Kreativitas Mahasiswa-Karsa Cipta (PKM-KC).

In an interview on Monday (17/7), the team leader Wahyu Nur Fatihah stated that the nanofibers are fibers with diameters in the nanometer range. One of the methods to make the nanofibers is using the electrospinning which is simple, flexible to produce carious polymer fibers, and consistent to produce fibers in the nanometer range. “A tool that we design can produce a simple but good health equipment,” declared Wahyu.

Wahyu and his two team members Abdul Rahim Safaruddin and Abdullah Irfan spent two months from May to July 2018 designing the electrospinning. The strengths of the electrospinning are that it possesses a simple and easily used operation system, utilizes double collectors and multi string in one tool, and is much more inexpensive than other electrospinnings.

Additionally, Wahyu and his team members expected that the tool can be developed well and can get a support from Indonesian government.
