Kana Safrina’s Dissertation Regarding the Values of Nurturing Children Earned her a Doctorate

Children are the greatest gift Allah SWT could give to a pair of husband and wife. The presence of a child completes a family. Through this phenomenon, Kana Safrina Rouzi started her dissertation regarding “Values of Dialogue in Nurturing Children as seen in the Qur’an”, in a doctorate promotion session held in Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY)’s Postgraduate Building on Tuesday (13/08).

The student of Islamic Psychology Education Postgraduate Program stated that her research was aimed to describe several aspects regarding the values of nurture between parent and child. “Through this research, I would like to describe nurtural materials regarding dialogue between parent and child in the Qur’an, describe values of nurture in said dialogue in the Qur’an, and explain how those values are relevant in the present,” she stated in front of her examiners.

Kana also stated that currently, the values and function of nurture in families and parents are starting to weaken because of social, cultural, and technological changes. This condition can lead to a dysfunctional family, with an unharmonious relation between its members and the lack of satisfaction in the parent-child relationship.

“In addition, the lack of communication between child and parent can cause trouble among the family member such as teenage delinquency, gadget addiction, or even substance addiction,” She added.

In her research findings, Kana explained that the concept of nurture in the Islamic Psychology Education perspective consists of several activities. “The activities consist of training faith, character development, worship, feelings, physical, intellectual, health, and sexual ethics. Values also include discipline, patience, forming of habit, communication, support, surveillance, and attention,” She added.

“Therefore, I hope that this research can help parents create regulations to benefit from the use of media and decrease its negative impact in creating social creativity and child emotion,” Kana closed. (CDL)
