Ecovillage Is One of the Means of Coping with Climate Change

Climate change in Indonesia is characterized by change in daily average temperature, rainfall patterns, and sea level. The shift brings serious impacts on various sectors such as health, agriculture, and economy. Noticing the rapid climate change, a lecturer of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) conducted a program of Ecovillage Development in Kuncen RT 01 RW 09, Cawas, Klaten, Jawa Tengah on Monday (27/5).

Head of Office of Research, Publication, Community Service of UMY Dr. Gatot Supangkat stated, “The ecovillage program comprises of waster bank development and aims to facilitate permanent rainwater devices.”

The ecovillage engaged two other lecturers. “They are a lecturer of Department of Mechanical Engineering Teddy Nurcahyadi, M.T. and a lecturer of Department of Communication Science Dr. Fajar Junaedi. The engagements aimed to run the program comprehensively,” inserted Gatot.

“The ecovillage program enables community to preserve environment, particularly to cope with the climate change. The program is expected to be organized in other villages that Kuncen become the pilot project,” ended Gatot.
