Knowledge of soft skills will not be taught by lecturers in classroom sessions. To that end, it is very important and necessary for students to participate in organizations or communities that suit their interests and talents during their time in college. Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) understands this and supports all 29 Student Activity Units (UKM) and various student institutions to help develop student abilities.
The Vice-Rector of Student, Alumni, and Islamic Affairs Hilman Latief, MA., Ph.D stated that UKM and Campus Organizations are important for developing the characters of students. UMY facilitates the students’ organization-related needs in many ways, including funding all organizations and UKM in the campus.
“Last year, there were many unused funds. In the future, hopefully, you can use the funds more optimally for your organizations’ needs” Hilman stated during the UKM and Student Organization Staff Shift on Thursday (31/10) at the UMY Graduate Building.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Student and Alumni Development Office (LPKA) Faris Al-Fadhat, Ph.D stated that organizational conflict can help shape a student’s character. The way the students solve that conflict can shape their decision-making, thinking process, and drive them to work together with other members.
“Leadership is a process in leading an organization so that each unit or part of the organization can run in an integrated and directed manner. Conflict in organizations is a necessity in organizational life. It is a process to develop and grow, “he stated.
Faris also explained that people who have the leadership spirit must understand a variety of things, something that can be obtained during their time in an organization. “. To be successful, you must convince members of the organization that you are worthy of being a leader. Get to know members by understanding the meaning of humanity. Start from the ability, desires, emotions and motivation, “he explained.
