Department of Law of UMY Achieves ‘A’ Accreditation

Department of Law of Universitas Muhamadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) achieved ‘A’ accreditation. In an interview on Friday (27/7), Head of Quality Assurance Office (BPM) of UMY Dr. Suranto, M.Pol. stated that an accreditation score of the department increased, 377 turning to 381. It was announced through the Decree of National Accreditation Agency for Higher Education (BAN-PT) No. 1748/SK/BAN-PT/Akred/S/VII/2018.

Suranto informed that UMY has a system to maintain accreditation. BPM arranged an expiration date of the re-accreditation. “The department will be supervised by 12 assessors to prepare for the accreditation documents to visit,” he said.

Meanwhile, Dean of Faculty of Law of UMY DR. Trisno Raharjo, S.H., M.Hum. was proud of the achievement of ‘A’ accreditation. “The re-accreditation was undertaken 4-6 July, and Alhamdulillah the score lift. We have to be grateful for the increasing score, 4 points since we used a SAPTO system. We did not have a validator in an accreditation process in 2013, but this year the validator was online,” he expressed.

Trisno added that there were a lot of improvements at Department of Law in these recent five years such as facilities, national and international achievements, research, cooperation with foreign universities in China, Taiwan, Korea, Australia, and Turkey. The Department of Law also possesses an international program supporting publication and internationalization of various standards. “A journal of the Department of Law has maintained its accreditation five times,” he told.

Dealing with facilities, Department of Law of UMY has three permanent courts such as a general court (administration, business, and religion), a special court (children’s court), and a constitutional court. It is also equipped with a simulation room, a teleconference room for an online course. “Indeed, this department possesses the greatest number of senior lecturers at UMY, and four lecturers are pursuing a doctoral degree,” mentioned Trisno.

The department has also developed an online presence list system and e-learning. Additionally, students are required to collaborate with lecturers to conduct research. it aims to support publication of the department. “We hope that this department can maintain its strengths and can be better with other programs,” expected Trisno.
