3.500 New UMY Students Took Part in 6 Choreographic Formations

As many as 3.500 new students of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) Batch 2019 succeeded in creating six large-scale choreography in the UMY Central Campus Field on Saturday (24/8). Those six formations include: Visualizations of the numbers 1,2 and 3 in the Arabic Alphabet, letters that spell UMY, the Yogyakarta Tugu Monument, a map of Indonesia, the flag of Indonesia, and the number 74 to mark the 74th Indonesian Independence day on August 17th.

With their Maroon almamater jackets and hats with “Muda Mendunia (Young and Worldly)” written on it, the new students lined up in formation at 6 A.M and finished at 9.30 AM Local Time. The choreography were created using colored paper prepared by the Mataf (Induction) Committee. The choreography will be the first large-scale choreography performed by new students to open the New Students Induction Process in UMY which will start on Monday, 26 August to Wednesday, 28 August.

The head of the 2019 UMY Mataf Committee, Muhammad Iqbal Khatami, stated that the concept for the choreographical performance was planned from last month. He said that he was happy that the process went smoothly, and the new students were enthusiastic to perform it.

“I am happy to be able to unite all new students from various backgrounds, departments, and programs. Together, we harmoniously created these formations, themed “Modern Muslim Millenials, Harmonizes Indonesia”. We have proven that UMY can exist as harmoniously in its own campus,” Iqbal, a student of Communication Sciences from batch 2017, stated after the session.

Iqbal also told the new students to continue and realize their new dreams in the UMY campus. “For new students, keep your chin up, because this is your starting point to realize your dreams in UMY, and we will also strife to give good impressions to new students at the start of their academic year,” he closed.
