Department of Nursing of UMY Supports Health Preparation for Pilgrims of KBIH Aisyah in Bantul

Indonesia is a country with the greatest number of pilgrims in the world. According to a data released by Ministry of Religion of the Republic of Indonesia in 2018, in past two years, Indonesia had sent over 200.000 hajj pilgrims. Most of pilgrims are dominated by people at the age of more than 50. Hajj does not only need spiritual preparation, but also requires physical and mental health. Pilgrims are required to prepare themselves as good as possible to reduce health problems that can happen during Hajj.

Departing from the issue, Lecturers of Department of Nursing (PSIK) of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) collaborating with Hajj Guidance Group (KBIH) Aisyah in Bantul conducted a community service program to promote health of pilgrims on Saturday (16/2). The event was held at Muhammadiyah Secretariat of Tamantirto Utara Branch.

It was a Community Partnership Program (PKM), chaired by Syahruramadhani, MSN with few members, namely Falasifah Ani Yuniarti, MAN dan Yanuar Fahrizal, M.Kep., Sp.Jiwa. “Our aim is to prepare the pilgrims to be mentally and physically healthy,” stated Syahruramadhani in an interview on Wednesday (27/2).

Syahru informed that was begun with material delivery by Dr. dr. Kusbaryanto, M.Kes about health problems and how to handle them. “Afterwards, we continue organizing medical check-up including blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol, and uric acid. There were over 70 pilgrim candidates from Sedayu and Kasihan attending the program,” uttered Syahru.
