INTERNATIONAL JOINT SEMINAR WOMEN IN LOCAL GOVERNANCE AND ITS CONTRIBUTION TO GOOD GOVERNANCE: CHALLENGES AND MODELS TO GLOBAL GOVERNANCE

A. BACKGROUND

In the 21st century, women’s role has been increasing in many sectors, from social to governance sector as a result of the awareness of the equality of women and men in society. Many women movements give chance to this awareness to grow stronger. The awareness has became a global phenomenon. Women are having almost the same opportunity of being success as men, even though there are still some groups with the traditional ideas that reject or refuse to acknowledge women’s role.
In political area, it started from when women finally got the right to vote, now some examples can be taken from several countries that have been proven that women have the same opportunity in political world as men, country like Indonesia, Filipina and Argentina used to have women elected by their people as president. These examples show how vast the changing that happens in women’s role. What at first is focused on the legal right, now it is focused more on the economic, personal right and politics. Politic that is always known as men’s business is starting to change since now there are many women aim at their interest on politic, one of them is their involvement in local governance. This seminar will focuses on the local governance in Indonesia and Malaysia since the two neighboring countries have almost the similar citizen characterization, history and similar system in the political implementation. The difference between women’s role and men’s role in the making good governance will be observed deeper later in the discussion.
Thus, the seminar aims to discuss, explore and examine the role of women in local governance. It challenges academicians, lecturers, scholars to examine more about the distinction of women’s role and men’s role in affecting the governance, in this case, local governance.

D.PARTICIPANTS

Participants are lecturers, students, researchers, professionals, and practitioners who have concern to Gender Studies and Governance at large. Participants will be categorized into 3 (three) categories: 1. Paper Presenter, 2. Paper Writer, 3. Attendant (by confirmation).

E. PAPER GUIDELINE

  1. The paper should be written in English, MS word format with font Arial 12, A4 paper, using 1,5 space. S
  2. Abstract should not be more than 150 words including key words
  3. The minimum length of the paper is 6 pages and maximum is 15 pages, including the abstract,
    tables, figures and reference
  4. The paper should not have been previously presented at another conference
    occasion or published in any periodical or journal.
  5. Abstract of the proposal must be received last on September 13th 2010
  6. The selected abstracts will be announced on September 15th 2010
  7. The full paper must be received last on the October 1st    2010

Article of Research

  1. Title, name and affiliation of the writer
  2. Abstract in a maximum of 150 words including key-words
  3. Introduction including background, problem statement, and aims of research
  4. Research Methodology including design, material, method, instrument, and technique of data analysis
  5. Result and Discussion
  6. Conclusion
  7. References

Article of Literature Review

  1. Title, name and affiliation of the writer
  2. Abstract in a maximum of 150 words with key-words
  3. Introduction including background, problem statement, and aims
  4. Review and Discussion
  5. Conclusion
  6. References

F. REGISTRATION FEE:

  • Paper Presenter    : IDR 300.000,-
  • Paper Writer    : IDR 150.000,-
  • Attendant (by confirmation)    : Free
  • Lecturers, Researchers and Students of UMY and USM are free of charge.
