UMY Offers a Grant Program to Enhance the Implementation of the Three Principles of Higher Education

Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) is a higher education institution always attempting to enhance the quality of human resources through implementing Tri Dharma Perguruan Tinggi (the Three Principles of Higher Education). The implementation was carried out through a grant program aiming to increasing security of Intellectual Property (IP) of research and community service. The grant program was a competition for academicians who have had research findings and performed community service.

In a promotion on ‘Guidelines of the Proposal Program of the Intellectual Property-Based Research Findings’ on Saturday (30/12) at building of Kasman Singodimejo of Graduate School of UMY, Division Head of Innovation and Product of Office of Research, Publication, and Community Service (LP3M) of UMY Ir. Cahyo Budiantoro stated that the grant program is expected to encourage UMY lecturers to conduct Intellectual Property Rights-based research.

Cahyo told, “The grant program may increase the number of patent works and boost lecturers to compete in external grant programs, particularly offered by Director of Intellectual Property Management and Directorate General of Research of Empowerment and Development of Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher education.” He inserted that the promotion will begin to be organized on 12 January 2018, while the proposal submission start from 12-26 January 2018.

Meanwhile, Secretary of LP3M of UMY informed that, due to the program uses an online system, validity of research findings, reporting, and program output will increaser. “When the program employed a manual system and we had to check one by one, there was miscommunication and it retarded processes. Now, the system is online so that it eases processes of checking, review and giving consequence because of infringing procedures of the grant program,” maintained Tatang.

Tatang said that one of the requirements to hand over the grant program proposal is accessing Information System of Research and Community Service (SIMLITABMAS). “The system enables accuracy of the program reporting to be more valid. If the grantees do not report, some features of their account will automatically be locked and they will not be able to propose another proposal program.

Indeed, the due date to upload documents of reporting and output is by 30 December 2017.
