UMY Cooperates with Two Overseas Univesities

Rector of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) Dr. Ir. Gunawan Budiyanto, M.P. signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with two Taiwanese universities, namely National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) located in Tainan and National Central University (NCU) located in Zhongli. The MoU signing was conducted on 24 and 25 July.

In an interview on Thursday (27/2), Head of International Affairs of UMY Yordan Gunawan told that President of NCU Prof. Jing-Yang Jou warmly welcomed UMY’s representatives and expected that both parties could cooperate in research and staff exchange in NCU.

“In the following day, Tuesday (25/7), Rector of UMY visited NCKU. President of NCKU Huey-Jen Jenny Su, Sc. D. stated that UMY is a strategic partner of NCKU. He wished that both parties could collaborate in various areas. Rector of UMY also informed that this MoU was dealing with activities in a faculty level and hoped that it could be a stepping stone to greater academic cooperation,” said Yordan.

Yordan maintained that the MoU signing aimed at make cooperation of both universities official. Indeed, along with the visit of Rector of UMY to Taiwan, VicePresident of NCKU Prof. Hung joined an international conference organized by Jusuf Kalla School of Governmental Studies of UMY.

“In August, UMY will have visiting professors from NCKU. Afterwards, there will be MoU signing between Faculty of Law as well as Faculty of Economics of UMY and Department of Law as well as Department of Economics, College of Social Sciences of NCKU,” mentioned Yordan.

UMY’s delegates also visited ASIA University and were welcomed by Vice President Prof. Ta-Cheng Chen in Taichung, who will come to UMY and sign MoU in the end of August.
