Three Students of UMY Coin an Effective Dosimeter

Three students of Program of Electromedical Engineering of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) coined an innovation for health through Program Kreativitas Mahasiswa Karsa Cipta (PKM-KC), named Dosca ‘Dosimeter Co-Card Alarm’. Due to the creativity, the team was successfully granted funds by Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education (Kemenristekdikti) of the Republic of Indonesia and passed to a national PKM 2018.

Many health workers do not realized that they are exposed by radiation in radiological rooms since they are using a manual dosimeter whose data cannot be provided fast. The circumstance inspired Subhan Bariton and Nadhatur Rughaisyiah to create a radiation measurement device.

“Our team spent three months accomplishing the Dosca ‘Dosimeter Co-Card Alarm’,” told Sabda in an interview on Saturday (14/7) at A.R. Fachruddin of UMY.

Sabda stated that the Dosca is a combination of surveymeter and dosimeter. “The Dosca works effectively. The size is as big as a pocketbook and the Dosca can measure radiation through a digital display which can be seen immediately. It is different from other dosimeter that the data can be gained after a month by Center for Healthcare Supervisory,” he explained.

Afterwards, if the Dosca is marketef in Indonesia, the price must be cheaper that other devices as Surveymeter and Dosimeter about 2-3 million rupiahs which should be imported from overseas.

Sabda, who is the fourth semester student, also expected that government entirely supports the innovation. “We wish government’s support so that we can easily obtain copyrights,” he ended.
