Educational institution certainly has distinct curriculum from one another. The distinction could be noticed from the implementation and plan of each institution, particularly at higher education. Many universities in Indonesia nowadays employ CBC or so-called a system of Competence-Based Curriculum. This CBC system implements not only academic field but also how the system could improve the students’ proficiency in their major.

Exploring the knowledge about curriculum in higher education, Sekolah Tinggi islam Ibnu Rusyd Lampung had Field Trip to Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) today (10/12) at Amphitheater B of UMY. The field trip was not the first time for them since the students and lecturers of Sekolah TInggi Agama Islam Ibnu Rusyd had visited UMY in 2012.

The filed trip was different from the previous one. Sekolah Tinggi Agama Islam Ibnu Rusyd was willing to share curriculum system implemented in UMY. “Our field trip to come here is not for the first time because we had ever carried out. This visit aims at gaining knowledge dealing with the implementation of curriculum in UMY,” told M. Markus Ali M. Pd. as a lecturer of STAI Ibnu Rusyd Lampung.

The curriculum system has changed since 2011, and just applied in students of 2012/2013. This system was designed to prepare the students in order that they would easily get a job or become an entrepreneur after graduating.

Morover, the CBC in UMY was constructed by including values of religion. “CBC system in UMY was also invented through incorporating Islamic values in the courses. It points at controlling human to be able to equalize the nature so that the development of technology would not devastate the environment,” stated Dr. Id. Gunawan Budiyanto, M.P. as Vice Chancellor I.

Besides each department of UMY has its features, English Education Department (PBI) has its own ways in engaging the CBC. “PBI itself designs that the graduated students of PBI would be teachers, researchers, entrepreneurs, English Education managers, and translators,” uttered Sri Rejeki Murtiningsih, S.Pd., M.Pd., Ph.D as a lecturer of PBI.

The CBC system in UMY has developed every year as every academic year each department always monitors the development of the CBC implementation. Thus, it could be a consideration for each department.
