The number of Muslims is escalating, but Islamic world is still confronting a lot of issues like poverty, backwardness, and ignorance. Development of sciences, technology, and education may resolve the issues and may support the development of Islam.

In a discussion organized by Doctorate Program of Islamic Politics of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) on Monday (2/5) at Graduate School Building, acting as the speaker, Prof. Din Syamsuddin stated that Islam would be developed if it has the three aspects. “Sciences, technology, and education in Islamic world are worrying, and this circumstance causes the poverty, backwardness, and ignorance.

Indeed, Islam possesses four huge powers, namely human resources, natural resources in Islamic countries, value resources, and the past glory of Islam. “Nevertheless, the issues will always exist if Islam can not be the producer from itself and get away from westernized paradigm,” Din argued.

Economic adversity is due to lack of intellect. Islam adopts westernized system, as secularism, so that Muslims doubt about Islamic teaching. Muslims should make the religion ethics. “To grow the ethics new educational paradigm should be established, and to develop Islam education and economy should be revitalized,” he contended.

“Even though Islam has enormous human resources and natural resources, the unity is questionable. Islam has not conquered the world yet, and it takes five decades to escape westernized authority,” he maintained.
