After having production and preparation for 3 weeks, Kyai Haji Ahmad Dahlan (KHAD), named by a KHAD Electric Car Racing Team of UMY, was ready to contend in Kompetisi Mobil Listrik Indonesia (KMLI) or Indonesia Electric Car Competition in Bandung. In this competition, an electric car produced by Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) would rely on the best braking in order to win the competition in the category of the best braking in KMLI VI 2014 held on the coming 15th of November.
The chief of KHAD UMY, Dwi Cahyo, in departure ceremony on Wednesday (12/11) in the laboratory yard of Mechanical Engineering UMY, the second generation oh KHAD electric car was a renewal of the first generation of KHAD. He argued that the second generation of KHAD would optimize the category of braking since it had examined several times. The main strength was the extremely impeccable braking compared to the last competition.
“In several trials, the power of the second generation of KHAD could be noticed when braking test. We believe that this electric car would be outstanding on the braking category. In this renewal we also enhance the efficiency of battery durability. However, we have not targeted yet on the category of efficiency because we do not have any idea how the efficiency of other participants’ cars is,” he told.
Besides, when leading the ceremony, the Vice Dean, Slamet Riyadi, ST., MT., Ph.D., explained that, on the behalf of the university, he wished the best in this competition. If the target was in barking test, this university supported it. The essential point was that the program of creating this electric car was not only for the competition. He hoped that this would be sustainable agenda.
“As the representative of the Vice Dean and university, no matter the result is, we hope the best of this competition. The university targets the best. If you say that the target is the winner of braking category, we fully encourage it. Nevertheless, the most important for this university is that the eagerness of making an electric car does not stop after the competition, but it could be sustainable activity for all of you and the next generations,” he stated.
Besides officially leading the departure ceremony, Slamet carried out test drive of the second generation of KHAD, surrounding the building of technical engineering laboratory. He also undertook several simple tests such as braking and velocity. Additionally, the KHAD Electric Car Racing Team of UMY departed to Bandung to join the competition of KMLI VI on Wednesday evening (12/11).
