ABU Asia-Pacific Robot Contest will be conducted on Sunday (23/8) at Sportorium of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY). The contest, bringing up a theme of Badminton Robo-Game (Robominton), has been organized since 2002. Thus, the strongest team and who will be the winner are unpredictable.
“ABU (Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union) Robocon is the biggest event, and badminton robot is firstly held. The Badminton Robo-Game has its own appeal and the game is quite complicated since the player is not a human. A lot of spectators are enthusiastic about the game since the toughest participant of the robot contest is hard to predict. Indonesia is well-known for the badminton and I think that Indonesia can be the strongest country in this contest,” conveyed Kuroiwa, a representative of ABU Tokyo as a speaker of Press Conference of ABU Robocon 2015, on Saturday (22/8) at lobby of rector office, A.R. Fachruddin A, Floor 1, UMY. Additionally, the other speakers of the conference were Rector of UMY Prof. Dr. Bambang Cipto, M.A., Chief of co-host committee Slamet Riyadi, S.T., M.T., Ph.D., Steering Committee of co-host Sri Atmaja P. Rosyidi, and TVRI Producer of ABU Robocon 2015 Ahmad Rohim.
Kuroiwa also informed that the theme of ABU Robocon 2015 was determined by Indonesia as the host of ABU Robocon 2015 while the theme of the next Abu Robocon has not been recognized yet. “The next theme will be determined by Thailand as the next host, and it will be announced tomorrow after the contest,” he mentioned.
Kuroiwa expected that the ABU Robocon can succeed and be fascinating for the spectators. “The ABU Robocon is firstly held in Indonesia, and I wish that the contest will be exciting. I, representing ABU, thank to UMY and TVRI for assisting to succeed ABU Robocon, and all Indonesian people please enjoy the contest,” he continued.
Furthermore, steering committee of the co-host Sri Atmaja P. Rosyidi asserted that badminton was selected as the theme of ABU Robocon 2015 because Indonesia acts as the host that the Indonesian people are very familiar with the game. “Thus, we decided badminton as the theme of ABU Robocon 2015. We also employ a typical icon of Indonesia, Wirobrojo robot, to acquaint Indonesia and its culture. The icon illustrates enthusiasm the participants should have, and it aims at introducing Yogyakarta culture to international,” he affirmed.
