Muhammadiyah Contributes to Educational Development in Arar

Sorong – People in Arar, Mayamuk District, Sorong Regency Papua Barat possess high awareness of the significance of education for their future. Even though people need to take a boat to get there, the village has a number of schools such as a kindergarten TK Aisyiyah (2008), a junior high school (2009), a senior high school (2012), Labschool Muhammadiyah, and SD Impres established by local government.

Chairman of Central Board of Muhammadiyah and Chairwoman of Central Board of Aisyiyah visited the village on 13 January 2019 as their concern about education in Arar. Chairman of Central Board of Muhammadiyah Dr. H. Haedar Nashir, M.Sc. also did groundbreaking of an establishment of a laboratory at SMP and SMA Labschool Muhammadiyah initiated by Universitas Pendidikan Muhammadiyah Sorong (Unimuda).

“May this construction enhance students’ enthusiasm to learn. I am glad that students are vigorous to study,” expressed Haedar prior to the groundbreaking ceremony.

Besides, Chairwoman of Central Board of Dra. Siti Noordjannah Djohantini, M.M., M.Sc. provided educational tools for TK Aisyiyah Arar having 26 pupils. She pledged to comply with requests from TK Aisyiyah Arah such as toilets and playgrounds.

Noordjannah declared that education should be given as earlier as possible to whoever they are. She admitted that Arar is a clean and tidy village possessing self-awareness of being able to compete with other people in the future.

‘The condition in Arar shows that Muhammadiyar presents to enjoy blessings of Allah in order that we can develop our environment, either mountains, coast, or islands. All of us have rights and responsibilities to gain our happiness begun from ourselves,” she maintained.

Additionally, the event was also attended by representatives of Office of Research, Publication, and Community Service of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY), Rector of Unimuda Dr. Rustamaji, and DRPR of Sorong. Rustamaji said that that SMP and SMA Labschool Muhammadiyah Arrar is unique.

“The uniqueness is that students play at beach during their break. We may be the only Muhammadiyah school in Indonesia that students spend their break playing sand,” told Rustamaji.

Indeed, the students have obtain great achievements. They always became the winners of Math, Physics, and Biology Competitions in Sorong.
