MGBK Enhances Quality of Counseling Teachers for the UKG

Counseling Teacher Association (MGBK) of Yogyakarta organized learning training to enhance the teachers’ quality and to prepare them for teacher competence test (UKG). The training was conducted on Friday-Saturday (16-17/9) at a meeting hall of Graduate School of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY).

Deputy Chairperson of the MGBK, Edi Prajaka, S.Pd., stated, “The training is for counseling teachers at high schools, and it is expected that the teacher can achieve excellent grade of the UKG. The training will be held for 82 hours and divided into two sessions, namely face-to-face training and daring training. Training at UMY is the first training and the second training will be undertaken in the end of September for twelve days.”

Counseling teachers are required to be able to advise and suggest their students as well as foster their students’ capability. “The teachers should possess pedagogy and professional competence. The pedagogy competence is dealing with how to deliver materials, while the professional competence is regarding teachers’ high professionalism,” he mentioned.

The training could be carried out due to cooperation with student admission office of UMY. The cooperation may enhance quality of human resources. “The training is also expected to bring positive impacts on the teachers’ services to students,” Edi wished.

Additionally, discussed topics on the training were self-development and scientific writing. “A module of the 10th competence is about scientific writing that a lot of teacher did not pass the competence. Thus, the teachers should be trained how to write it well,” he ended.
