Being concerned about public and having high care, alumni of Medical Department, Medical and Health Science Faculty (FKIK), of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) conducted social service and free health check-up in Banjarharjo, Kalibawang, Kulonprogo, Yogyakarta on Sunday (29/11). The event was the first pilot project proposed by alumni of FKIK of UMY across Indonesia, and it was started in Yogyakarta. It was an obvious action of alumni of FKIK of UMY for public and Muhammadiyah.
Chief of the alumni dr. Widiyanto Danang mentioned that the event aimed at intertwining good relationship among the alumni, Health Charity of Muhammadiyah, and organizers of Muhammadiyah as well as Aisyiyah, and assisting public as Muhammadiyah’s doctors’ devotion. “The event is our contribution to public in health field, and the alumni agree to conduct the event regularly. It is the beginning for alumni of FKIK of UMY to organize the event once six months, and we have coordinated with alumni of FKIK of UMY across Indonesia to hold a similar event,” he stated.
Most of the FKIK of UMY alumni in Indonesia have become hospital directors. It is expected that the alumni can carry out the same event in their own areas. “The number of alumni is about 1500 people. It is the quite big number, and I wish they can undertake a similar event in their areas through coordinating with other alumni,” he hoped.
Furthermore, one of the alumni joining the event dr. Maria Ulfa informed that the event comprised several activities like religious stud, free medical check-up, socialization and training of healthy life, training of hand washing for children, and distributing primary food. “The event was not only providing primary food, but also educating public and children to maintain their hand health through practicing how to wash hands correctly,” she maintained.
Additionally, the event was conducted by alumni of FKIK of UMY collaborating with Medical students of UMY, young doctors, medical teams of three hospitals, namely RS PKU Muhammadiyah Bantul, RS PKU Muhammadiyah Kotagede, and RS PKU Muhammadiyah Nanggulan, as well as organizers of Muhammadiyah and Aisyiyah. “The event was cooperation among alumni, Muhammadiyah hospitals, students, and young doctors. In the event, the committee also provides several ambulances to bring patients to a hospital if an emergency occurs,” Maria maintained.
