Integrating DEBAR with Digital Health Literacy to Prevent Not-Contagious Disease

Department of Nursing of Universitas  Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) collaborating with Muhammadiyah Tobacco Control Center (MTCC) of UMY, Hamplet and Neighborhood Units (RT), and people of DK II Kersan Bantul launched Dusun Sehat Bebas Asap Rokok (DEBAR), Digital Health Literacy, and Posbindu PTM (Pos Pembinaan Terpadu Penyakit Tidak Menular – Integrated Health Counselling Post for Non-Contagious Disease) on Sunday (10/2). These programs were part of Abdimas (Pengabdian Masyarakat – Community Service), organized by Development Partner Village (PDM).

Head of the Abdimas PDM DEBAR as well as Head of Department of Nursing of UMY Resti Yulianti Sutrisno, M.Kep., Ns., Sp.Kep.MB stated that those programs set to be campaign to support Bantul Regency to achieve its goal as Health Regency in DIY and also as an implementation of Regional Regulations No.18/2016.

“The programs aim to provide good preservation for susceptible groups, such as babies, toddlers, pregnant women, and elderly people. These programs were also pointed to solve secondhand smoke problems, which in this case have also become long-remaining smoking problems in Indonesia. Based on data conducted by The Tobacco Atlas 6th Edition, Indonesia was one of the countries which had a serious matter about this secondhand smoke problem,” conveyed Resti on Tuesday (12/2).

Dianita Sugiyo, S.Kep., Ns., MHID, a lecturer of Department of Nursing of UMY said that there was another program called Digital Literacy Program, set to be means for people to obtain health information in DK II Kresan. She also mentioned the use of internet and social media is crucial in this era of Industrial Revolution 4.0. There had been an ascension of internet users which reaches almost 54.7 percent. Dianita was afraid that people might find false health information since many hoaxes are found on the internet. This program also endeavored to give proper education to manage and analyze health information on the internet.

Besides, the Posbindu PTM was a suitable medium for people to gain information about the program. This post is set to serve people in productive ages (15-59 years old). This program runs once a month, in the second week.

Changing Habits

Head of DK II Kersan Khanif Ainun Fajri explained that the program was a mean to create healthy surroundings for the people. “We commit to create a healthy environment for everyone in the hamlet. We do not force people to stop smoking thoroughly. Instead, we give an impetus for them not to smoke in public areas and at home. We hope that this DEBAR program will be a good beginning for people to comprehend the danger of smoking fume,” he uttered.
