Going to World Class University, UMY Sends 67 Students to 7 Countries

Attempting to be a private university having World Class University standard, Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) sent 67 students to take student mobility program in several countries as Malaysia, Thailand, South Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Australia, and Spain. A pre-departure orientation of the student mobility program was conducted at Tembi Rumah Budaya on Monday afternoon (29/6). It was leaded by Vice Chancellor III of Student Affairs Sri Atmaja P. Rosyidi, S.T., MSc.Eng., Ph.D., PE.

In his remark, Sri stated that UMY expected that late there will be1000 foreign students studying at UMY, and 1000 students of UMY studying overseas. “I hope that selected students for this exchange utilize this occasion to gain a lot of knowledge, and to broaden students’ world views,” he wished.

Sri inserted that the participants of student exchange could maintain their religion, nation, and university, “This student exchange is expected to always promote tagline of UMY, ‘Islamic and Excellent’ as well as ‘Young and Global’, and to preserve national identity,” he added.

Head of International Relations Officer Idham Badruzaman informed that there were 150 registered students for the student exchange. The selection comprised of document selection, writing motivation letter, and interview. Then, there were 67 selected students for the exchange. “Those 67 students are from various department at UMY like English Education Department, Economic Department, International Relations, Governmental Studies, IPOLS, and Information Engineering,” he conveyed.

Idham stated that the student exchange was divided into several periods for the departure from 5 July to the end of 2015. “Most of the student exchanges take 1 semester, but there are programs for 6 weeks, 11 days, or 5 days. It is based on the MoU between UMY and the university,” he continued.

The pre-departure orientation raised a theme of ‘Persiapan Keberangkatan 01 (Departure Preparation 01) From Indonesia to the World’. Each group performed various Indonesian ethnical dances and songs in order to raise their nationality and confidence.
