Generasi Bakti Negeri Song Enlivens the 71st Indonesia Independence Day in Sebatik

440 students performed a collage drama in the celebration of the 71st Independence Day in Sei Bajo, Sebatik Timur, on Wednesday (17/8). The 440 students were from SMA N 1 Sebatik, SMAN 1 Sebatik Tengah, SMK Nurul Uman, SMA Taruna, and MA YIIPS. A song of ‘Generasi Bakti Negeri’ (GBN) of student community of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) was sung in the opening of the drama.

A coordinator of the drama, Oscar state, “The lyrics of GBN are incredible since they are about an encouragement to unify youths so that we decided to play it in the beginning of the drama.”

Besides, the chief of the independence day commemoration, The commander of Sei Bajo Sebatik Timur Military District Command (Kodim), Denny S congratulated the success of the drama. “Even though it always rained when having exercised, the students were enthusiastic,” he told in an interview after the 71st Independence Day ceremony in a field of Sei Bejo on Wednesday (17/8).

The GBN song is a trigger to enhance the nationalism of both GBN community and youths of the district.

Indeed, the GBN community was founded by students of UMY and focuses on community service. The community chief as well as the founder is Deni Febrian, an International Relations student of batch 2012.

The community service has been conducted for two years in Sebatik, particularly Sebatik Tengah. The first batch of the community service comprising of 29 students of Social and Political Science Faculty, Economics Faculty, and Law Faculty was held in Maspul and Aji Kuning village. In 2016, the second batch of GBN community encompassing 25 students of Social and Political Science Faculty, Economics Faculty, Law Faculty, and Engineering Faculty carried out community service in border areas of Indonesia-Malaysia, namely Bukit Harapan and Sungai Limau village.
