A lecturer of Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) Masyhudi Muqorobin, M.Sc., Ph.D., Akt. passed away on January 6. Due to his contribution to foster Sharia Economy in Indonesia, particularly at UMY, FEB of UMY awarded him Lifetime Achievement. The award was bestowed by Dean of FEB Dr. Nano Prawato, M.Si. at International Conference on Islamic Economics and Financial Inclusion (ICIEF) at amphitheater of Graduate School on Tuesday (24/1).
“We acknowledge a lost. Mr. Masyhudi was one of the Indonesian economic prime movers. He also contributed to the alteration of Department of Economic Studies to Finance and Islamic Banking (EKPI), and the success of EKPI and International Program for Islamic Economics and Finance (IPIEF). He deserved to gain the lifetime achievement award,“ Nano declared.
Nano told that Mr. Masyhudi was a hard workers and plain. “One of his ambitions is to change conventional economy into sharia economy. He believed that the conventional economy should be shift since the sharia economy possesses justice values. I saw him as a humble persistent person. He did not care of his condition, but he always think about how to foster the sharia economy to benefit the people. Indeed, when I knew him closer, he is an unpretentious person. He shared his knowledge to the people, and I think he is a wonderful man,” he asserted.
Meanwhile, Department Head of EKPI Dr. Imamudin Yuliadi, M.Si. stated that Mr. Masyhudi is an influential person in developing the sharia economy. He is a senior lecturer at this faculty, and this idea of conducting ICIEFI was his. Therefore, this forum may reinforce the branding of this department as an institution evolving the sharia economic in national and international levels,” he conveyed.
Imamudin also expected that his goal regarding the sharia economy can be achieved and become the inspiration for the participant of ICIEFI. “This forum represents his perseverance for the sharia economy. I wish that the sharia economy is regarding theoretical aspects but also its contribution to policy-making. Besides, Mr. Masyhudi significantly devoted himself to internalize Islamic values at this faculty, classes, as well as national and international seminar,” he maintained.
