A Student of Technische Universiteit Eindhoven, the Netherlands Performs an Internship program at UMY

Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakara (UMY) signed Memorandum of Undertanding (MoU) with Technische Universiteit Eindhoven (TU/e) the Netherlands in 2006. The MoU was revised in 2016 that the programs are dealing with staff and student mobility, joint research, joint conference, and internship.

A master’s student of the TU/e Milou (24) had an internship program at Study Center for Regional Energy Development (PUSPER) of UMY for four months. A lecturer of Department of Electrical Engineering of (UMY) Ir. Tony K. Hariadi told that Milou was not the first Dutch student having an internship at UMY since there were two students from Amsterdam University.

Milou’s professor Prof. Henny Romijn recommended UMY as an internship place. “Milou’s research is about renewable energy. Prof. Henny sent her to UMY because this university has a renewable energy study center which can help her to accomplish her research. Indeed, the professor has cooperated with UMY to conduct joint research and write articles with UMY lecturers,” told Tony in an interview on Wednesday (25/4).

Tony informed that Milou’s research in Indonesia was her final project for her master’s degree supervised by UMY lecturers, namely Ir. Tony K. Hariadi (a lecturer of Electrical Engineering), Sri Atmaja P. Rosyidi, S.T., MSc.Eng., Ph.D., P.E. (a lecturer of Civil Engineering) and Dr. Lilies Setiartiti, S.E., M.Si. (a lecturer of Economics).

Meanwhile, Milou revealed that her research aims to find out impacts of government’s policy on electrical power distribution in Indonesia. “My research focuses on Indonesian government’s policy to distribute electrical power in remote areas and how it prompts electrical management and maintenance,” she maintained.

Milou expected that her research will be valuable for Indonesian people and government. “I wish that my research can change people’s views on policy and regulation of electrical power in Indonesia, and the power system can be better. Hence, areas which do not get any electrical power distribution can receive it soon,” she hoped.
